The gear change is light changing up and down the box regardless of the box being hot or cold. But its fair to say its a bit clunky compared to most cars I have owned and that included the Micra that preceded it.
This appears to be a pretty common problem on both Kia and Hyundai. Fortunately, the fix is really simple – all you have to do is swap out the TRS. On all these vehicles (Kia Optima, Kia Sorrento, Hyundai Elantra) the TRS is located in the front driver-side quadrant of the engine bay (the bottom-right if you are looking under the hood).
• When the problem of gear system occurs, the transaxle indicator will blink. For your safety, we rec- ommend that you contact an authorized Kia dealer and have the system checked. • When the clutch is overheated, the safe protection mode oper- ates. Page 134: Speed Limiter Indicator
noise. It was louder with 1-2-3d gear and not so loud with 4-5th gear. When reverse was selected, a small vibration was starting. The technicians said it is problem of gearbox and kept the car. Hi all. I have a cee'd 1.6 crdi 113bhp 60 reg 15K miles. Love the car but have an ongoing issue with the 1st 3 gears. Not sure what the proper technical term is for describing this but when I change into 1st, 2nd or 3rd gear it feels as if there is movement in the cogs and they make a clonking/scraping noise. 4th, 5th and 6th are much smoother.
Inside, the Ceed doesn’t quite have the wow factor of some of its Kia stablemates; the faux stitching that spans the dash looks naff, too, and the italicised gear pattern decal on top of the

G4FA Ceed problem. Good service history. The main bearings have failed, Knocks like a toilet door in a storm ! I cannot find an engine at a sensible price and wonder if a 1.6 would run on the 1.4 electronics. Any polite suggestions most welcome. I cannot see that the 1.4 electronics would work with the 1.6 as you would need the ecu and sensor

Meanwhile, I can't think I've read of much going wrong with them. It's a widely used motor (both charged and uncharged) in the Hyundai/KIA empire, there must be lots of units on big mileages.
